We are big fans of Cedric Peyravernay’s sensational painterly style. His artwork explodes with intricate detail and deep meanings, and is storytelling at its very best. CGSociety chatted with him recently about his work.

Please describe what you do.
I am a Freelance Concept artist. Currently I spend most of my time working on character design and morphologies for Arkane studios on Dishonored 2. I am also an illustrator.

What are some of the projects you have worked on / clients or studios you’ve worked with?
I have worked on Bethesda ‘s Dishonored and DLC, and I'm currently collaborating with Arkane Studios on Dishonored 2, and on other projects that will be revealed soon.

A few years ago, when I was working with other publishers, I met the people of Arkane studios and joined the Dark Messiah team.

In my free time I also work for EuropaCorp, on a TV series called Section Zero produced by Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Taken, Lucy). It is a sci-fi thriller by César-nominated writer and director Olivier Marchal, and is scheduled to be released in 2016.

What’s the most indispensable tool you use?
My hands, my brain and my instinct. I use Photoshop to transpose onto the screen all that comes to my mind. I keep it as simple as possible and do not use many effects.

Before moving to computing, I did a lot of painting, which helped me develop a greater sensitivity and taught me a different approach to digital tools

Whose work (both past and present) do you really admire and why?
I like classical painting from any country, the list is endless. What I mean is, all the works these artists did required a great deal of patience and reflection. In addition to that, their artistic background gave their work strength and meaning.

I think that any quality work is timeless, and in the long run, time makes more sense than fashion.

When not creating world beating art, what do you like to do? What are you currently doing, reading, listening to or looking at to fuel your work?
I like playing with my daughter and my son, drawing and painting (again!). My daughter is a genuine Art Director ;) I also like getting out of my studio to go running. Anything that can disconnect me from computers and social networks is important to me.

Music is also essential; I listen to Ennio Moricone, Mike Patton, Radiohead, and many others, and find them really inspiring. I also like playing music with friends, I play the guitar.

Is there something you are currently working on, or are excited about starting, that you can tell us about?
Dishonored 2. Go and check my Facebook page, that is all I can say for now ;)

Can you tell us a little about the above image? Was it for a project? Any hidden meanings?
This illustration is part of a project I started in 2008 and which I had to put on hold when I started working on Dishonored in 2009. This project is about men and machines.
Since then I have updated the image and made it more painterly as I like to do.
Yes there a hidden message in the picture, can someone guess what it is all about ? ;)

Thanks for your time Cedric!
