Allegorithmic just launched “Meet MAT: The Substance 3D Painting Contest” aimed at artists of all levels. Contestants will be introduced to MAT, a fully modeled 3D figurine in need of some personality. Using Substance Painter, they will decide who – and what – MAT is. Is it an alien? A soldier? An athlete? The choice is up to the artist, and the top four entrants will win thousands of dollars in prizes from co-sponsors NVIDIA, Wacom and Artoyz.

Submissions will be accepted from April 27 through May 11 at 11:59 p.m. PST. All entries will be published on the Allegorithmic website, as well as in an open gallery hosted by co-sponsor Sketchfab and any new Substance Painter users on Sketchfab will automatically receive three months of Sketchfab PRO.

The contest will focus exclusively on texturing, and all entries must be done in Substance Painter. For those new to the tool, Allegorithmic is offering a 30-day free trial of Substance Painter, along with a 20-minute tutorial video that will give prospective contestants all the information they will need to create their own version of MAT. Allegorithmic will also provide 14 materials from its Substance Source library at no cost to help entrants get started.

The first place entry will receive a prize pack valued at over $7,000, including an NVIDIA Quadro M6000, a Wacom Mobile Studio Pro 16 and all 22 of the Elements Alpha Series from Artoyz. The second and third place entrants, as well as one student winner, will also receive prize packs that include NVIDIA hardware, digital creation tools from Wacom and art toys from Artoyz’s special collection. The winners will be announced on May 23.

Artists from all disciplines, styles and skill levels are encouraged to compete, making it the perfect opportunity for new users to learn Substance Painter in a fun and exciting way, while experienced users will have a chance to put their skills to the test.
