Luxology Launches Next Generation Modeler, modo

Luxology today announced the launch of modo, its next generation 3D modeling system. One of the most advanced sub-division modelers on the market, modo combines a powerful, real-time subdivision surface modeling engine with a user-centric, highly customizable interface and includes hundreds of production-oriented tools, which can be repeatedly modified to handle the trickiest of modeling tasks. Luxology will unveil modo to the general public at SIGGRAPH 2004, and begin shipping to customers in early September 2004.

More of a 3D modeling platform than a traditional software application, modo revolutionizes the way modeling transpires for 3D artists developing games, films, TV and Web productions. modo is designed to be flexible enough to model everything from organics to hard surfaces, and to comfortably work in low-resolution real-time meshes, high-resolution film models, and anything in between.

"modo allows 3D modelers to create without obstacles," said Brad Peebler, president of Luxology. "By developing modo with the input of many of the world's premier artists, we've come up with a product that is more like an extension of the artist's imagination than a simple tool. modo simply doesn't get in the way."

modo has been tested extensively through a beta site program that includes leading edge artists and companies from around the world. Testing was done through a variety of projects ranging from commercials and TV programs to high end games and feature films.

"modo creates a new standard by which all digital content creation software will be measured," said Jake Carvey of Spin Off Studios. "From innovative and intuitive modeling tools, to an outstanding, fully customizable interface, modo delivers unprecedented modeling performance in a tight package." Feature highlights in modo include:

modo will be available in early September through Luxology and its worldwide partners. modo will ship on a single disc supporting both Mac OS X and Windows. modo will sell for a suggested retail price of USD $895, with a limited-time introductory price of USD $695.
