UK-based Clear, one
of the hottest sfx compositing and animation boutiques in
London's Soho, has completed key effects for their latest
music video projects, "Corner of the Earth" and "Round Round", using REALVIZ
MatchMover Professional for 3D camera tracking. Steve Garrad, Producer on both projects, explains how the
different elements came together. "For Jamiroquai's video
'Corner of the Earth', the aim was to create a photo-real
representation of the solar system revolving around Jay Kay.
Jay Kay particularly liked this part of the treatment, so
the sequence had to look believable in terms of the look of
the planets within the solar system, and sit believably into
the environment as shot. Jamiroquai never looked better.
"The moving live action plates were conformed in Discreet
Inferno," continues Garrad "exported into MatchMover
Professional for tracking, then the planets; starfield and
comet were all modelled, animated and textured in SOFTIMAGE|XSI.
Inferno was used for the final compositing. All the moving
live action plates that needed the CGI solar system were tracked
using MatchMover. The turnaround was quick yet completely
accurate." | | Hot on the heels of 'Corner of the Earth', the Clear team
also completed key effects scenes for the Sugababes latest
video 'Round Round', which releases worldwide on 12 August
2002. In the middle of an awe-inspiring performance in front
of their fans, the girls literally whip up a tornado! "We liked to call it a 'promo tornado'," says Garrad "in which the Sugababes are visible throughout the piece
yet encircled by objects and dust. The moving live action
plates were conformed in Inferno, exported into REALVIZ MatchMover
Professional for tracking, then the debris and dust clouds
were all modelled, animated and textured in SOFTIMAGE|XSI.
Inferno was used for the final compositing. All the moving
live action plates that needed the CGI were tracked using
MatchMover Professional, of which there were 23 -- this was
achieved in 2 days." "Fundamentally this job could not have been achieved
in the timescale without REALVIZ MatchMover Professional --
my original estimate for the turnaround on this project was
4 weeks, yet the 62 shots that required 3D was turned around
in 5 days, of which 23 shots had been tracked using MatchMover
Professional due to the tightness of the schedule." Clear traces it's origins back to 1994, and has since grown
to become one of the hottest sfx compositing and animation
boutiques in Londons Soho. In the six years of trading as
Clear, the company has seen rapid growth, increasing both
in terms of size and the progressively higher profile of jobs. Links REALVIZ Clear Back to 3D Festival |
