The roll call of the VES Award winners for 2013.
Eric Roth had a heart-felt plea for new young people to come into the industry during his opening salvo at the VES Awards this evening. The Visual Effects Society has staged the 11th Annual VES Awards, which recognize outstanding visual effects artistry in 24 categories of film, animation, television, commercials and video games. Acclaimed director Ang Lee will be honored with the VES Visionary Award. Richard Edlund ASC, VES will be presented the Lifetime Achievement Award during the show.
I have just been watching intently from the other side of the Pacific Ocean. (I love Twitter) and collated the list of winners. In nominated order, here are the results, as they roll in. Big Congrats to all the winners and nominees.

At this point Richard Edlund was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Harrison Ford. Some great quotes were brought out here, including the story that Edlund's hand was the original Thing on The Addam's Family TV series, and that back during the filming of the original Star Wars, he recalls telling the VFX crew that, "these were the good old days."

Dennis Muren took to the stage at this point and presented Ang Lee with the Visionary Award. This is such a point to remember, with the Storm of God sequence in his movie Life of Pi having just won two big awards, (so far).
Ang Lee came up with some great quotes during his acceptance speech. He was quoted as saying, "I went on to make 'The Hulk' after 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' because I thought I could do anything," and "It's not Visual FX, it's visual art." and "You guys aren't technicians, you're artists." Very true.
