Oscar nominations

Tue 24th Jan 2012 | News

There were some surprising selections in the VFX and animation nomination lists for this year's Academy Awards.

The nominations have been released for the Academy Awards, due to go live late February. The list is honourable, though the omission of some of the leading studio's work brings a sting of reality to the announcements.

Of course, I agree with, celebrate and congratulate those talents who have come through to the final nominated list. Some great independent European works have been included, which brings a more ecclectic flavor to these awards.

In the Visual Effects list, there is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2', 'Hugo', 'Real Steel', 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes', and 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon'. 'The Speilberg/Jackson piece, 'The Adventures of Tintin' missed out, and I am wondering if the judging panel just couldn't decide category it was supposed to be in.  VFX or animation. The fact stand that it missed out in both categories.
