Escape Studios and The Mill launch competition to uncover future stars of the CG industry.

    Sunday, 10 October 2010

For anyone with a passion for CG and ambitions to break into the world of visual effects, this could be the lucky break you’ve been waiting for. Escape Studios, in partnership with visual effects company, The Mill and sponsors 3D Artist and CGSociety, launches the second annual ‘CG Whiz’ competition, to find future stars of the CG industry.

The competition is open to students, graduates and hobbyists from all over the world, and offers the winner a state of the art training from Escape Studios, and a helping hand into the competitive CG industry. The only rule is you can’t have worked professionally in a CG role before.

Over 15,000 British Pounds worth of Escape Studios’ training and unique work placement at The Mill is up for grabs. Enter by uploading your show reel to one of Escape Studios’ social media channels.

The top prize is a 12-week visual effects (VFX) classroom course, either at Escape Studios’ classrooms in London or Los Angeles, followed by a four-week placement at The Mill. Thanks to exclusive partnerships, runners up will also receive 3D Artist magazine subscriptions and a 12 month CGSociety membership.  This is perfect for those wanting to work in the CG industry. There’s also a selection of mentored and online courses up for grabs as runner up prizes.

Commenting on the competition, Dominic Davenport, founder of Escape Studios, has said, “We’re very excited about our search to find some of the industry’s brightest talent and give aspiring artists the chance to break into the VFX industry. Last year, the quality of entries we received was testament to the hidden talent that exists in CG. We see it as our job to help anyone with a creative streak and a passion for computer graphics develop their skills and get them started on successful CG careers. We’re looking forward to checking out this year’s entries!”

Stephen Venning, 3D Executive Producer at The Mill, added: “We’re delighted to support CG Whiz in its second year. For us it’s a great way to check out the best amateur CG talent and offer the cream of the crop a real opportunity to build a career as a professional artist. This year, we’re delighted to offer the winner a month’s placement either in London, New York or Los Angeles. This, plus the state-of-the-art training offered by Escape Studios, is as close to an open door to a career in CG as you can get.”
