ATI's RADEON™ 9700 PRO Graphics Engine Drives Alienware's Ultimate Gaming Machines
MARKHAM, Ontario - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX: ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT), today announced that the RADEON™ 9700 PRO, the world's most radical, feature rich 3D graphics visual processing unit (VPU), will power Alienware's ultimate gaming machines.
The RADEON 9700 PRO vastly exceeds the performance of any other graphics board on the market today, creating a totally immersive computing environment. The VPU offers eight parallel rendering pipelines that can process over 2.5 billion pixels per second and four parallel geometry engines that manage more than 300 million transformed and lit polygons per second.
"Alienware continues to thrill enthusiasts with excellent gaming options and performance," said Matt Skynner, Director, Graphics Partner Marketing, ATI Technologies, Inc. "With the introduction of the RADEON 9700 PRO to Alienware's extreme line-up in time for the holiday season, serious gamers will have all the power they can manage this fall."
Delivering unparalleled realism through ATI's SMARTSHADER™ 2.0 and floating point precision, the RADEON 9700 PRO is the first graphics architecture to support Microsoft® DirectX® 9. The implementation supports up to 16 textures per rendering pass with Pixel Shaders 2.0 and vertex programs of up to 1,024 instructions with flow control. This architecture produces complex cinematic-quality images in real time. The RADEON 9700 PRO incorporates a new high-performance 256-bit DDR memory interface, providing over 20 GB/second of graphics memory bandwidth.
The RADEON 9700 PRO VPU is the first to fully support the AGP 8X specification, allowing increased volumes of texture and vertex data to be transferred at mind-numbing speeds. ATI's commitment to AGP 8X ensures that the RADEON 9700 PRO is at the forefront of the latest advancements in chipset technology.
