ART VPS Launches RenderDrive RD3500

Thu 5th Sep 2002 | News

ART VPS Ltd. today announced the immediate availability of RenderDrive RD3500, a new addition to its RenderDrive 3D rendering appliance product line. This latest RenderDrive system is positioned to offer high quality 3D rendering performance mid-way between the company’s ultimate 3D rendering system – the RenderDrive RD5000 – and its PURE workstation add-in card. RenderDrive RD3500 offers high quality photorealistic 3D rendering performance up to 25 times faster than ray tracing software running on a pc workstation.

The RenderDrive RD3500 uses ART VPS’s unique physically based rendering graphics processors to accelerate the complex and computationally intensive photorealistic rendering algorithms. Through ART VPS’s RenderPipe plug-in interfaces, the RD3500 can be used seamlessly with Autodesk VIZ, Discreet’s 3dsmax and Alias|Wavefront’s Maya.

ART VPS focuses on the Virtual Photography application of computer graphics, where its 3D rendering products are pre-eminent. Virtual Photography allows computers to create images of uncompromising realism from digital data. Generating images in this way can significantly reduce the time-to-market for new products, architectural designs and entertainment projects.

The RenderDrive RD3500 delivers images fully-pixel compatible with all of ART VPS’s rendering devices, and offers real-world rendering features including:
* Real-world lighting calculations and accurate shadows
* Physically-based material library
* Accurate lens effects
* Simple and intuitive “virtual camera” user paradigm
* Design studio environment library

“The launch of the RenderDrive RD3500 fulfils a specific need identified by the market and demonstrates the benefit of our clearer market focus, following the recent buyout of the Advanced Rendering Technology business by ART VPS,” said Craig Wareham, VP Marketing for ART VPS. “Targeted at medium sized architectural practices and industrial design studios, the RD3500 offers all the shared access benefits of the RenderDrive product line, but without the absolute ultimate rendering speed of the RD5000 system. PURE customers looking to grow their rendering performance have also expressed strong interest in this new RenderDrive model.”

ART VPS’s unique 3D virtual photography solutions have established themselves worldwide within many leading product design companies, including Bombardier Aerospace, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble, and Shell; and architectural practices, such as Chapman Taylor Partners, HDR Architects, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, and WAT&G.

“ART VPS has the best visualization products for architecture I have ever seen. RenderDrive is the Paradigm Shift everyone talks about but never delivers. ART VPS has delivered it. It exceeds every conceivable preconception.” Richard Grogan, Architect, HDR Inc.

The RenderDrive RD3500 is available direct from ART VPS and its selected Value Added Resellers.

About Advanced Rendering Technology
ART VPS Ltd. develops and markets leading edge Virtual Photography solutions for users in the AEC, Industrial Design, and computer graphics markets. Virtual Photography allows computers to create images of uncompromising realism from digital data. Generating images in this way can significantly reduce the time-to-market for new products, architectural designs and entertainment projects. The company developed the world’s first dedicated ray tracing graphics processors — the only 3D graphics chips that can create images of true realism. RenderDrive, ART’s 3D rendering appliance, and PURE, ART’s 3D rendering workstation add-in board, are application independent and can be used with many 3D applications including 3ds max, 3D Studio VIZ, Maya, and any RenderMan-compatible application.

ART VPS customers include: Paul Steelman Design, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, and Taylor Woodrow plc for architectural visualization; The 3DO Company, Naxos Images, and Rushes for film, video, and interactive production; and Bombardier Aerospace, Procter & Gamble, and Shell for design visualization.
